HOME ENERGY SAVING SCHEME

The Home Energy Savings (HES) Scheme provides assistance to homeowners who are interested in improving the energy efficency of their home in order to reduce energy use and costs and greenhouse gas emissions. This is a national scheme and it is open to all owners of existing homes built before 2006. The scheme is administered by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) and relevant agents of SEI.

Homes built after 2006 were built with a very high standard of insulation and heating controls, and therefore upgrading these measures is not necessary.

Steps Required to Get a Grant Payment

Type of Work Covered by the Grant

Grants will be provided to homeowners who invest in energy efficeny improvements in the following areas;

 Roof Insulation

 Wall Insulation - this includes either cavity wall, internal dry lining or external insulation

 Repalcement High Efficency (>90%) Gas or Oil fired boiles with Heating control Upgrade

 Heating Controls Upgrade

 Building Energy Rating (BER) - this is optional to the homeowner

Grant Payment

Grants are fixed for each type of measure as indicated in the table below. Grant approval must be in place before any purchase pf materials or commencement of measures undertaken. Grants will be paid in full after the measures are completed and the contractor has been paid by the homeowner. In the instance where the cost of the work (VAT inclusive) is less than the fixed grant amount, the actual cost will be reimbursed.

Please note that while a homeowner is entitled to apply for each Measure there is a minimum requirement that the grant amount for the first application must be €500 or greater. The BER grant cannot form part of this €500 amount.
